Technical Estimator

The Role
​
A full time, permanent position is available for an individual able to demonstrate the required skills and attitude to become an integral part of the team. Working as part of the Business Development team, applicants will be expected to support the sales activities for both new & existing customer opportunities. The role will also involve a close working relationship with internal technical and production staff to ensure costs are as accurate as possible whilst also working with key customer contacts where required to ensure quotations are in line with their requirements.

A very good understanding of technical drawings is required as well as manufacturing methods to ensure quotations are as accurate as possible in line with the designs and specifications. Good communication skills are essential for both internal and external relationships and will need to be used effectively to deliver accurate timings and in order to communicate effectively with the customer to gauge timely feedback and develop relationships. The role also requires an understanding of purchasing as contact with material and subcontract service suppliers will be required to determine best external costs.

This role is key to driving growth and developing the future of the business and as such the responsibilities and projects will be continually changing bringing with them new and exciting opportunities. The right candidate must be driven to succeed and be able to adapt to meet company and customer needs.

Reporting to the Head of Business Development - The role will include the following key responsibilities:

Develop a strong and effective relationship with internal staff & customers.

Effectively log and respond to allocated projects from new and existing customer request for quotations.

Provide costings and quotations in a timely manner in line with customer drawings and specifications.

Carry out timely routine follow-ups on quotations.

Liaise directly with customers on progress and to resolve any technical queries.

Liaise with supply chain to gain the best possible pricing on purchased items as part of quotation package.

Work with production departments to gauge feedback on costings to develop accurate labour costs.

Work with production to determine accurate lead times for quotation.

Maintain quotation database and report activities as requested.

Required Experience and Skills:
​
-
Time served toolmaking / machine building background would be an advantage.
-
Previous experience of a cost estimating role within subcontract services.
-
Experience of toolroom equipment essential.
-
Excellent mathematical and numerical skills
-
Understand technical drawings & BOMs.
-
Experience of Special Purpose Equipment desirable

Outgoing personality
-
Qualified to BTEC ONC/HNC or equivalent, preferred but not essential.

Ability to work with minimum supervision, individually and as part of a team.

Good communication skills (written and oral) and a professional manner

Able to prioritise own schedule of work and show good organization skills.

Ability to interact with staff at all levels.
-
Good level of computer literacy – Excel, Word and Outlook.

Willing to travel, primarily within the UK.
-
Valid Driving licence.

Vehicle owner.
